Dispatch from the Getting-Ready-For-School Battleground this morning:
Bryce this morning, yelling in protest against having to go to school this morning:
"My job is not going to school; my job is Batman's job. Batman doesn't go to school."
So Bryce is safely delivered to school now, in his Batman pajamas and mask. Any evil-doers at the pre-school better watch out!

Burgeoning Entrepreneurialism
Last week, the boys got the bright idea that, during the Fall community yard sale in our neighborhood on Saturday, they should put up a Lemonade Stand.
A lemonade stand! Beautiful!
As the days leading up to the yard sale passed, the idea was elaborated a bit to include some baked goods and coffee since, at 7am on a cool Fall Saturday morning, Lemonade might not be the strongest seller.
And a portion of the proceeds, they decided, should go to a very worthy cause, the Nashville Rescue Mission. It was, in fact, a cool morning on Saturday.. but a very successful one. Aidan was a great salesman, asking "How may I help you?" of each of the people who came up to the table. And he even got to try out a little of his 1st-grade Spanish with a few of the Hispanic families that came by.
Bryce did wind up spending a little time on Time-out, though...
In the end, the boys raised $10 for the Mission, meeting their goal while also leaving enough left over to put a little in each of their piggy banks, and buy one small toy on a trip to the store with their Mom.
Turned out to be a good lesson all the way around, I think and SleepyMama did an amazing job of managing the whole enterprise!

Future Ambitions and Favorite Numbers
Aidan has been on-record for some time now with his ambition to be a father some day. (I have to smile even just typing that.)
But now he's adding to his future resume-- thanks to all the good work he sees his Mama doing:
Hey Aidan.. what do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a Dad.. and a 4th Grade Teacher.
A Teacher, huh? Why 4th grade?
Because 4 is my favorite number.

Short Order
Aidan, playing with Bryce's new kitchen playset just now, asking his Aunt Laura for an order:
Aidan: "Hey Aunt Laura, what would you like to eat?"
Aunt Laura: "Hmmm... how about some Tiramisu."
Aidan: "Nah, we don't have that. How about some eggs?"

"Wish I could skate..."
We're watching the hometown Nashville Predators on TV tonight-- Peter Forsberg is making his debut in a Nashville uniform, and buzz is building around town that the Preds could make a run at the Stanley Cup. Bryce was on my lap a few minutes ago and asked "What's that?" as he gestured toward the TV.
"Hockey," I said.
"Oh, hockey," he replied, as if he just needed to be reminded.
Then he asked, "What are they doing?"
"They're skating on ice."
"Oh, they're skating." Bryce paused to think for a moment while the Preds flew back and forth across the screen, "I wish I could skate like that with my friends."
