As of this morning we're officially pet-sitting Mai Jen (may-SHEN) and Aidan has been in boy-loves-dog heaven, chasing that poor little Pekingese all around the house since 8:00 this morning.
Well, tonight at bed-time, all dressed in his PJ's, teeth brushed and ready to go, Aidan got down his favorite Pooh book from the shelf and plopped himself on the floor next to Mai:
"C'mon Mai. Let's read."
Mai shuddered, blinked twice, and then rested her chin back on her tiny front paws.
"Pooh has gotten himself into another sticky situation," Aidan read. And as he turned the page, Mai took the opportunity to get up and move to the other side of the room.
Aidan promptly hopped to his feet and followed close on her tail-- literally. "C'mon Mai, let's read."
This sequence was repeated three or four times until Aidan decided he should be the master of this situation: "Mai," he said, doing his best to sound like a dog trainer he's never seen, "lay down."
"Mai. Lay down, Mai."
No luck.
Ultimately, Aidan turned to me, frustrated. "Daddy, you read to Mai.... C'mon Daddy, sit on the floor..."
Well, you know where that was headed.
G'night.
