The Sun has Gone Down, way far away.

just before bedtime...

Aidan: Is it dark outside?
Mama: Yes.
Aidan: Where's the moon?
Mama: It's up in the sky.
Aidan: Yeah, because it's just come'd [sic] out, because the sun has gone down, way far away.

Both Hands on the Wheel!

This morning, Aidan and I drove to the grocery store and as I was tapping my hand on my knee to the music on the radio, I heard the following from the car seat behind me:

"Daddy, don't bump your leg. Put both hands on the steering wheel!"

Aidan's career as an Inspector for the Metro DMV is off to an early and promising start.

Bryce's Haircut: Mission Accomplished.

Mama chalked this up to just another way in which our two boys are worlds different.
Unlike Aidan who fought going to the barber's chair like a condemned man in Alcatraz, Bryce went gamely into the chair, let Rosie (Bryce's new official stylist) put the smock on him, and then happily made faces at his Mom while Rosie snipped away the locks.

Here are a few photos:

During

After

And the cowlick is back with avengeance!

Bryce is getting a trim!

Bryce is going in for his first haircut today!
Keep your fingers crossed that he goes quietly into that barber's chair! :)

Bye Bye Ms Flora

Aidan and Ms. Flora

It's not a very well kept secret that Aidan has a crush on his teacher's assistant, Ms. Flora. [that is, Ms. Flora is the assistant to Aidan's teacher; not that Aidan has an assistant... not yet, anyway!]

Unfortunately, with summer coming, Ms. Flora is wrapping up her time at the little Brentwood YMCA Pre-School. But she wrote each of the kids a little note today, thanking them for their contributions to the class. To Aidan, she wrote "Thank you for your quirkiness and the wilfull love you give to everyone in the class".

[Our son is quirky?]

Flora will surely be missed. We haven't broken the news to Aidan. But when the last day of the semester comes next week, I suspect we'll have an unhappy little boy-- for at least a little while.

The Pizza Place

Aidan's class went on a field trip today... to Papa Johns Pizza!

Sheesh! Whatever happened to trips to the museum, post office, or fire station?
Okay, well I think they did a trip to the fire station, but still!

Aidan had a great time. All the kids got to catch the dough the guys were throwing into the air, and then spread sauce, cheese and pepperoni on top. Aidan was thrilled to bring home 'his pizza'.

Now, when we go to the 'pizza place', as he calls it, to pick up our next pizza, I'll have trouble keeping him from going straight behind the counter to help make the pizzas!

NewsFlash! Bryce likes Cake!

Bryce found yet another way to distinguish himself from his brother by putting his major-league sweet-tooth on display for friends and family at his Birthday Party today.

Gramma and Grampa, Aunt Laura, Aunt Patty and Elly, and friends John and Christie with their kids, McKenna and Keaton all came to help us celebrate on a beautiful day-- sunny with a cool breeze, so we were able to spend a good part of the day out on the deck.

By 8:00 tonight, both boys were bathed and in bed-- and snoozing soundly as I write this.

We've updated the .Mac page with more pictures, so check in over there when you get a chance!

Some more video is on the way, too. But that'll have to wait for another night. This SleepyDad is packing it in!

Happy Birthday, Bryce!

Bryce turns 1 today!
"Happy Birthday to you...."

Spring No Sing

Shy

Today was the "Spring Silly Sing" at Aidan's school. It was about a 30 minute program in which each of the classes got up on stage in front of the assembled throng and delivered a heartfelt, if uneven rendition of one song or another.

When Aidan's class got up, Aidan was first on stage! But he was also very quickly first OFF stage as he climbed down into the first row to sit on this Mama's lap.

She managed to convince him to get back up on stage for the rest of the program, but he steadfastly refused to sing. Not one note. Music's original alternative!

When he spotted his Daddy in the back-row, though, he wasn't shy about pointing him out and saying-- just as the music was coming to an end-- "Daddy has his video camera!"

Wash the Car

Aidan came in from playing outside and said,

"Daddy, I want to wash your car!"

Yeah, where are you gonna be in 10 years when I really need you to wash the car?

Shoes

Aidan played "Blues Clues" Football at school today and scored the first touchdown.

On the way to school this morning:
Aidan: "Mama, these aren't my tennis shoes."
Mama: "No?"
Aidan: "No, they're my football shoes."

Aidan and Bryce gave Mama the new Lascivious Biddies CD for Mother's Day.

Ants!

It's spring-time in Tennessee, so that means little insects start making expeditions through whatever cracks or crevices they may find in your home.
In our house, this meant that a few days ago we found a small colony of tiny ants scurrying around near our side-door.

When Aidan spotted the ants, he immediately made the connection that these were ants like the characters in his new favorite movie, A Bug's Life.

"Mama, look, it's the ants! Hi, ants! Oh, they're so cute and little? How many legs do ants have? Oh, there's one! Look, there's another one! Mama, there's four! Yeah, ants have six legs, just like ladybugs! and they have legs, and ears...no arms, just legs."
